Rules & Safety
This park is owned by the Conestee Foundation, a private non-profit organization. Lake Conestee Nature Park is managed by the Greenville County Recreation District.
Be aware that:
- Some areas of this unique park are restricted due to the presence of low levels of contaminants in lake sediments. Conditions are safe for use as a park but we require park patrons to follow our safety rules.
- The park is open from sunrise to sunset. Visitors are responsible for leaving the park before the gates are locked.
- This park is a wildlife sanctuary. Do not touch or harass wildlife of any kind.
- Practice “Leave No Trace” principles. Help keep Lake Conestee Nature Park clean by disposing of waste properly. If you carry it in, carry it out. Waste receptacles are located at most trailhead parking lots.
Safety Precautions:
- Be alert for snakes, poison ivy, yellow jackets, barbed wire, trip and fall hazards, and other dangers.

- Look out for hazards to children. You may see dangers they may not see.
- In case of an emergency call “911″ for first responder assistance.
- Always know which trail you are on to identify your location.
- For your safety, observe all “Warning” and “Do Not Enter” signs.
- Stay on marked trails and boardwalks.
- Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not allowed into water or wetland areas.
- Bicycles are permitted on all trails except the Lakebed Loop Trail (blue blaze). Bikes must be walked across all boardwalks and bridges. Respect all trail users/trail rules.
Prohibitions:
- Entering wetlands and all streams and water bodies is prohibited.
- Alcoholic beverages, amplified music, camping, fires, fishing, hunting, and motorized vehicles (except authorized vehicles and wheelchairs) are prohibited.
- Watercraft or flotation devices of any kind are prohibited.
- Weapons and firearms of any kind are prohibited within the park.
- Collection of plants, animals, firewood, rocks, and artifacts is prohibited.
